3 small unwanted insects that can infiltrate your suitcases

|2023-08-10 | Pest control

Scenario: You come back from vacation more or less rested with sunburn still noticeable, but your head full of beautiful memories And the suitcase full of little clandestine pests!

Not only do they travel for free and cross customs illegally, but they spoil your return by inconveniencing your whole family, or even the whole apartment block!

Who are they?

Let Groupe Surprenant introduce you to the three pests most likely to infiltrate your luggage.

The bed bug

We know this very well: you don’t have to travel to end up with a bed bug infestation.

For more information on bed bugs and how to get rid of them, we invite you to read our blog post here.

His modus operandi

This insect is a real ninja: it comes out at night to feast on your blood. And, even if you manage to spot it, its tiny eggs, which are a light hue, can go completely unnoticed.

It is surprising to learn that some people will never be aware of having been bitten by bed bugs, while some people will develop allergic reactions such as itching that can even prevent them from sleeping at night.

We wish you to be part of the first group!

What to do?

In your hotel room, carefully check the mattress, the sheets, the pillows, but also the armchairs and the curtains!

The sand flea

Think the showers near the trail to the beach are just for rinsing off your sandy feet? Think again! You’ll appreciate them more now that you know they can rid you of potential sand fleas.

A fearsome little beast

The sand flea or sea flea is a small crustacean measuring only 1 mm. Its size is comparable to that of a bed bug egg.

However, do not think that its size minimizes its dangerousness! Its small size allows it to easily infiltrate your suitcase, as it can cling to your clothes and even your hair!

Their sting causes some pain and itching. Do not scratch as this can lead to infection and irritation! The aloe you bring to treat your sunburn will be doubly useful here.

What to do?

So, rinse off after your swim and go and change your towel regularly during your trip!

The ant

This one is more visible to the naked eye, but is very persistent!

A rather treacherous glutton

Even if your food is well wrapped and well hidden, the ant will invite its little friends and find a way to invite itself to the buffet, because it is very greedy!

Beware of red ants, or fire ants, as these can sting several times in a row, unlike wasps. A blister may also form at the site of the bite.

What to do?

The watchword: do not put your luggage on the ground and make sure your suitcase is closed!
If you suspect this creature of having infiltrated your suitcase, it is advisable to wrap it with a plastic bag for two weeks so that the little clandestine travellers suffocate.

This blog post will certainly be of interest to you if you want to prevent the appearance of ants in your home!
